28 Liberty

28 Liberty

Originally developed in 1961 by Chase Manhattan Bank as its headquarters, 28 Liberty was acquired by Fosun in 2013. The Lower Manhattan tower, designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore Owings & Merrill, is internationally recognized for its architecture, and its modernist plaza was designated a landmark in 2009. The 2.2-million-square-foot, class-A property is a leading New York City commercial office and retail destination that is home to the financial district’s top technology, finance and legal tenants.

In 2015, Fosun’s Four Trees team launched a comprehensive repositioning project that included all new building systems, elevators, common areas and the creation of a 200,000-square-foot retail destination at the base of the building. As part of this effort, the Four Trees team has fully re-tenanted the property, leasing more than 1.8 million square feet of space in the past five years. Four Trees collaborated with renowned restaurateur Danny Meyer, founder of Union Square Cafe and Shake Shack, to create Manhatta, a celebrated restaurant and event space, on the building’s 60th floor. The team also brought in Alamo Drafthouse Cinema as an anchor tenant for the retail destination.

Four Trees has leveraged the unique assets of 28 Liberty — 60 floors of best-in-class office space; an expansive, 1.5-acre plaza, a world-class restaurant and a dynamic retail center — to establish the property as an unparalleled community and cultural destination. The building conducts an ongoing series of arts and community events on the plaza, including Sing for Hope Pianos, the River to River festival, Dine Around Downtown, MoMath educational programs and numerous sports and cinematic events. The plaza has become an asset to local families and the entire city, offering open space, recreation and entertainment.
